more than 100,000 participants in the Bangkok Pride Parade.
Bangkok Pride Parade finished this evening with more than 100,000 participants, including the 5-sequence parade along Rama 1 road. It was a part of the Bangkok Pride Festival event. The parade represented the identity and hope of the Thai LGBTQ+ community, including Love Wins (representing the same-sex marriage law), Love for Identity (based on Gender Recognition law), Love for Dignity (based on Pride of LGBTQ+), Love, Peace & Earth alongside Love for Freedom (representing Global and Local Human Rights topics).
Since the Same-Sex Marriage Law was presented to the Parliament in March and approved by the Members of Parliament and twice by the Senate committee, the final vote will be on June 18th. If the committee says yes, Thailand will be one step closer to being the first country in Southeast Asia to have a same-sex marriage law officially.
Also, LGBTQ+ rights are expanding in some careers. For instance, nurses can now dress based on their gender identities. Furthermore, The Ministry of Education allows students to dress based on their gender identities based on school rules.
Besides Bangkok Pride, Chiang Mai held a Chiang Mai Pride 2024 event on May 26th with more than 5,000 participants.
This officially made Chiang Mai the first province to have a Pride event in Thailand.
